Hello everyone,

I realized that I had not performed a complete detoxification of my body in a while. So I decided to go with the Lemonade Diet, a diet prescribed by Stanley Burroughs in his book "The Master Cleanse" . I have never done this diet before so am nervous :) but we'll see how it goes.

Day 0 (The day before starting the diet)

I have a slight sore throat, but I think that shouldn't hinder my plans for starting the diet tomorrow. For the ingredients, I went to trader Joe's, KMart (yeah) and Rite Aid. This is all I got:

Rite Aid:

1. SmoothMove Herbal Lax Tea (16 tea bags).

Trader Joe's:

1. 2 dozen lemons (You'll need 5 per day)
2. 8x25Oz Jars of Trader Joe's Organic Grade B Maple Syrup. (You'll need approx 1/4 jar a day)
3. Cayenne Pepper

K-Mart:

1. Two RubberMaid Gallon jugs
2. Citrus juicer (manual, using hand, not the electric)

That's it!

I went to bed having the "Smooth Move" laxative tea. The tea is amazingly pleasant tasting. In fact its one of the best tasting teas I've had.

Day1 (Saturday, 10/17/2009)

Got up early morning (thanks to the Smooth Move laxative tea). Weighed myself. I weigh 79 kg (170 lbs). Did my salt water flush - two glasses of warm water with 1 tsp of salt in each. Made my lemonade and put it in the gallon jar.

Lemonade Recipe
1. Put 10 cups of filtered water in the gallon jar
2. Squeeze the juice of 5 lemons and add it to the jar (5 lemons are approx. equal to 15-20 tbsp)
3. Add 1 1/4 cup of Grade B Maple Syrup. Note: 1 1/4 cup is approx 1200 calories. You can use 1 cup to consume 1000 calories.
4. Add 1/2 ts of cayenne pepper (Recommended is 1 tsp but its too hot for me).

>>contd<<

Whole day went by pretty easily. I was feeling a little bored. It was the weekend anyways so lazed around at home. Drove and bought some stuff for my wife and was back wondering what to do. But I realized that we spend so much time everyday thinking about food, cooking it, eating it that when you remove the food component out, you actually have so much more time. Oh well :)

I had some hunger pangs today, not much, maybe once or twice.

The Cayenne pepper was too hot for me. So I'll try 1/2 tsp instead of 1 tsp today.

Had my herbal laxative tea in the morning and went to sleep.

Day 2 (Sunday, 10/18/2009)

I woke up quite early today, did the salt water flush, made my lemonade as usual. I weighed myself today and lets see...how much do I weigh today....76.2 kg (168 lbs). So 2 pounds lost in one day - must be all that food along my digestive track..lol.

I used 1/2 ts instead of 1 tsp of cayenne pepper in my lemonade today. This is much more tolerable.

I noticed that the lemonade tasted best in the morning and after 5 pm I was gulping it down forcefully, not out of choice.

I was cold most of the day and sleeping most of the time. I felt a weakness in my muscles and realized that the fasting was eating away my muscle. I could feel the weakness and pain. Not good.

I drank only 8 glasses of the lemonade today and the lemonade had become so monotonous that I looked forward to drinking the hot herbal tea at night.

Day 3 (Monday, 10/19/2009)

Woke up in the morning and did the salt water flush. Made my lemonade and kept it ready. Since I had the salt water at 4:30 am, I was expecting to get ready and leave for work by 6:30. However this wasn't the case. I was in my bathroom till 7:00 and then I realized this is not gonna work out for me.

I was also kind of depressed with the taste of the lemonade. So...i QUIT. Yes two days is the most I could handle this.

I feel much better today though and not at all hungry. I got some orange juice and fruits (apples, bananas) which I will have today and my wife is making spinach-lentil soup for dinner.

My overall experience is that if you want to try this diet, when you have a lot of time and most importantly access to a bathroom. The salt water gushes can last up to 3 hrs after ingestion. I have heard that if you take the laxative tea in the morning, you could need the bathroom for up to 5 hrs.

I still recommend you all to try this, albeit for a few days..go as long as you can.

I realized that I was cold and had a runny nose on day 2. I was also sleeping most of the time with a blanket on (its also getting cold here). I'd recommend you to do this diet in a warm season when the cold lemonade may be more appealing.

Good luck!
