Motion Sickness (Nausea, Ulti)

Motion Sickness - What is it?

Ever feel your stomach churning when driving thru a valley? Every feel that you are just about to vomit? This is caused by motion sickness. This usually happens because the body expects a state of rest which it is deprived of. Hence its necessary to soothe the acids in the stomach and prevent nausea/vomiting.

Motion Sickness - What to do for it?

One hour before you go on your trip, peel, cut and mince one tablespoon of fresh ginger . Add it to half a glass of warm water and let it stay for 5 min. Drink the water after filtering the ginger pieces. Optionally you can also chew on the ginger pieces (however its very strong and pungent!).

Dadima ke nuskhe

Adrak or Ginger is a very powerful herb to combat motion sickness. With Adrak there are no side effects like feeling drowsy or having blurred vision or getting a dry mouth (cotton mouth). Ginger works by dampening impulses to the brain which deliver equilibrium messages. Its effects are pretty quick as well.

In Diwali, South Indians grind ginger and mix it with jaggery. This paste is called Lagium (pronounced legium). It helps keep one's stomach clean during Diwali when you tend to eat a lot of sweets.

Very good and thanks for the tip. My mother gets travel sickness all the time. We also sometimes have curd or (taak in Marathi) with methi seeds to cool down the stomach.
