Healthy Diwali legium Recipe (Herbal Tamil colon cleanser)
What you need:
3-4 pieces (about 250 gm) Ginger (Adrak, Inji) - 100gms 3/4 cup Jaggery (Gur, vellam) 3/4 cup coriander seeds (dhania, kottamalli) (seeds from cilantro plant) A few pieces of cardamon (elaichi) A few cloves (lavang) (2-3) 2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera, jeeragam) 1/2 tbsp oil (add more if you need, but less is healthy). Canola oil is a healthy choice.
How to make it:
1. Blend the ginger and jaggery in a food processor/blender to a fine paste (Tip: You can add a bit of water). 2. Roast the spices (coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cardamom, cloves) and blend again with the ginger-jaggery blend above. 3. Heat oil in a pan till it becomes warm. 4. Add the blended paste to the oil and keep summering for 5 mins till it blends. 5. When the paste doesn't stick to the pan, stop heating.
Legium (Lagium) is ready!
This herbal preparation cleanses the colon and is a very healthy supplement. During Diwali its taken as a tonic to cleanse the body. Also a popular tradition in Tamil Nadu.
